Optimalisasi Kualitas Jaringan WI-FI (Wireless Fidelity) di Lantai 4 Gedung Menara USM Menggunakan Ekahau Site Survey

Seiring dengan meningkatnya jumlah penggunaan internet maka kebutuhan akan akses internet secara fleksibel semakin meingkat. Akses internet dapat dilakuakan melalui media kabel maupun nirkabel. Sebuah koneksi Wi-Fi dibentuk menggunakan sebuah wireless adapter untuk menciptakan hotspot, yaitu area area disekitar wireless router atau acces point (AP) yang saling terkoneksi pada jaringan dan mengijinkan pengguna untuk mengakses internet. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas sinyal dengan mengoptimasi dan merencanakan penambahan jumlah akses poin karena terdapat beberapa area yang belum terkover pada Lantai 4 gedung Menara USM. Untuk menentukan pengukuran parameter yang digunakan yaitu Signal Strength, Signal to Noise Ratio, Troughput dan Data Rate, sedangkan untuk metode yang digunakan yaitu walktest. Pada sebuah gedung terutama pada setiap ruangan kuat sinyal dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor yaitu frekuensi, jarak dan sekat/penghalang. Untuk itu pada penelitian menggunakan model propagasi COST231 Multiwall untuk menghitung link budget, jari-jari acces point, dan pathloss coverage area pada Lantai 4 gedung Menara USM. Hasil perhitungan disimulasikan menggunakan software Ekahau Site Survey untuk mengetahui area persebaran sinyal wi-fi, dari hasil perhitungan mendapatkan 16 access point untuk mengoptimlkan kualitas sinyal pada Lantai 4 Gedung Menara USM.
